THE PROS AND CONS OF PLAYING A SPORT

I think more and more people are playing sports, but they may be questioning if they made the right decision. Playing a sport can have so many good effects but just like everything else, there are certain negative effects as well. The good certainly outweighs the bad, allowing for sports to be a great thing for everyone.

First of all, it's a great hobby to spend your time doing. If you didn’t already have a hobby, picking a sport would be perfect.  Most kids when they get home from school can get bored of what they would normally do because they don't have a hobby. If they played a sport, it would not make them bored and they would have something to look forward to for the day. Another pro is that it would be good exercise. Clearly, playing a sport would be a great source of fitness, plus a great way to lose weight. Not only is it good exercise, but it also helps you with your health because sometimes your brain tells you to eat healthier after a game or practice because it wants you to succeed in your sport. Playing a sport also creates and establishes a good sense of teamwork, allowing people to be socially active.

Although there are advantages to playing a sport, there can also be disadvantages as well. With a busy lifestyle, it can be hard to keep up with sports. Most of the time, you can get multiple practices/games a week. That can make you tired and take away your time to do other things, so your schedule can get really tight. Also, it can get difficult to find someone to drive you to every game and practice because parents also tend to have a busy schedule. Another con is that it can get expensive. Depending on the sport, a piece of equipment can get really expensive. For example, a hockey stick can go for $50 to hundreds of dollars plus all the other equipment needed to play, leading to a costly total. Even more, money is spent when there is a kid playing sports because they are constantly growing, meaning that they will outgrow their equipment and need more.

In conclusion, I really do recommend playing a sport if you don't already. The Marine Military Academy states, “whether or not you’re a natural-born athlete, there’s probably a sport that’s just right for you”. Which goes along with the fact that you should play a sport. It truly is a great way to spend your time, getting active while having fun with friends. There are always ways to get around the challenges of playing sports so taking the opportunity is definitely worth it.
