Ruby Bridges  Did you ever think about who was the first kid to break the barrier of the rules for blacks and whites and what schools they can go to? Do you think that they had a hard time getting through their life when white people didn’t accept African Americans? Her name is Ruby Bridges, and she was the first African American kid to go to an all-white school. She was born black so she was properly taught at a young age that she couldn’t do things that other people could. So, by the time she was 6, she knew that she had to learn and do things differently. The board of education put out a test for black children to measure whether or not they could attend an all-white school. Ruby took the test and she happened to pass, along with 5 other kids in New Orleans. Ruby’s parents wanted her to go to an all-white school for better education. I'm sure they knew that it would be hard for her but they were willing to take the risk.  Ruby wanted to and accomplished being the fir...

THE PROS AND CONS OF PLAYING A SPORT I think more and more people are playing sports, but they may be questioning if they made the right decision. Playing a sport can have so many good effects but just like everything else, there are certain negative effects as well. The good certainly outweighs the bad, allowing for sports to be a great thing for everyone.  First of all, it's a great hobby to spend your time doing. If you didn’t already have a hobby, picking a sport would be perfect.  Most kids when they get home from school can get bored of what they would normally do because they don't have a hobby. If they played a sport, it would not make them bored and they would have something to look forward to for the day. Another pro is that it would be good exercise. Clearly, playing a sport would be a great source of fitness, plus a great way to lose weight. Not only is it good exercise, but it also helps you with your health because sometimes your brain tells you to eat hea...

Young kids these days are getting more and more distracted by technology. Phones are probably what most kids are asking for. Every parent is wondering whether or not to give their elementary school kid a phone. I got my first phone when I was in 4th grade, and my parents knew that it was a good Idea because they believed I was a good kid. I used it responsibly whenever I would take it with me. I brought it to school a couple times but never used it, it was only for emergencies and I always remembered to put it on silent before I left my house so I never really got distracted. But for kids in elementary school maybe they would forget to put their phones on silent and it would be making buzzing sounds in their backpacks and it could get distracting for teachers and students walking down the hall. Also if elementary kids have their phones right next to them during zooms they could get tempted to use it during class, so parents may take them for the whole school day. If the parents t...

Introduction If you want to know more things about hockey, you're in the right place. I’m Oatmeal and I can tell you all about hockey, because I play it. Equipment   All the equipment you need for hockey is a helmet, skates, gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, hockey pants, shin pads, plus a hockey stick. And last you need a jock to cover your private area... but you also need a jersey and socks for you to wear with your skates, and socks to cover your shin pads.  History Hockey was invented by James Creighton in the late 1800s in Nova Scotia. It was typically played with a couple people but later in time it evolved into the team sport we know today. Now, Canada is the most well-known country people associated hockey with. Did you know, the first-ever hockey team to win the Stanley Cup was the Montreal Hockey Club in 1893. Rules There are only a couple rules in the game. Icing, Penalties, Offsides, and catching the puck with your hand. Icing is when you are behind...
